Pesky Hunger Pangs? Try the Pesky Pelican!

We’ve talked about restaurants on St. George Island, and we’ve talked about restaurants in Apalachicola, but have you tried the Pesky Pelican in Eastpoint? The Pesky Pelican is located on highway 98 about three miles east of the Big Bend Scenic Byway (the road that leads over the bridge to St. George Island). If you haven’t been there, it’s worth the short drive!
The Pesky Pelican reopened at their new location on April 26 following the destruction that took place from Hurricane Michael last year. The restaurant is located at the Coastline RV Resort. The restaurant, which is owned by Jewel Still, who calls the Pesky Pelican her livelihood…her everything! The restaurant started at its current location as a food truck with a pole barn to go along with it. The site was given to Ms. Still by Chester and Garrett Creamer, the owners of Coastline RV Resort. This is a true testament to the generosity that has continued to be displayed following what happened as a result of Hurricane Michael.
Now, about 6 months after opening, the Pesky Pelican has a full building with seating inside of the screen portion of the restaurant with views of Apalachicola Bay. It was a hot, late-September night when we went. It was comfortable sitting in the shaded, screened area.
Our last trip to the Pesky Pelican was a few weeks ago with the whole family (with the exception of my wife, Krista). Despite it being a Thursday night in late September, it was still pretty busy. We even got to see our handyman, Ron, and his wife sitting at a table when we arrived! Our waitress was super friendly and despite our large group, we were seated right away.
The menu at the Pesky Pelican has good variety with seafood po’ boys, fish sandwiches, salads, seafood baskets, pizza and what may be the best burger in the area!
The most famous item on the menu and the best seller, though, is the Pesky Shrimp! I ordered the Pesky Shrimp, and wow, I was impressed! The basket came with a lot of popcorn shrimp tossed in the secret “pesky sauce” which was sweet with a little bit of a kick. The shoestring fries were great, and it came with hush puppies and coleslaw too (I’d describe the coleslaw as a very “vinegary” slaw).
Between the eleven of us, we had a variety of orders. We had three orders of Pesky Shrimp, a grilled shrimp basket and a mullet basket.
Several kids ordered the pizza too. As you can see, Brody was very excited about the pizza with a side of mac n cheese!
We also ordered some Mullet Dip for an appetizer. It was my first time ordering Mullet Dip on the Forgotten Coast (or ever!). It’s served cold with saltine crackers.
The Pesky Pelican is open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner and recently started serving breakfast too. (Please note that the Pesky Pelican does not accept cards.) Also make sure you check out their Facebook page to see their latest specials. Their prime rib looks amazing!
