Is your St. George Island beach vacation the highlight of your year? It always is for us! Our family takes a week in the summer every year to spend time with family at the beach and in the pool, play games and eat a ton of food! We look forward to our annual trip to the island to spend time with the cousins, aunts and uncles and grandparents. Whether it’s our yearly trip to Serene Dream with the extended family or if we stay at Sea Dunes when it’s just the five of us, our visit to St. George Island is always a great time. What we love about St. George Island is that even when we go over the holiday week, the beach still looks like this…!

Several years ago, we wrote a blog about what it’s like to be on “vacation” as a homeowner (check out that blog here). Many times, we spend so much time working on the house (maintenance, repairs, buying supplies or meeting our on-island service providers) that we don’t get to enjoy our trip. This year, we got to just focus on enjoying family and having a great time! This year we even got to see a sailboat on the beach.

Every year, we have to do our annual family pictures. The kids hate it..the dad hates it, but we get it done to make Momma happy! Because “if Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!”

Usually, when we are at the beach, we make two trips to St. James Bay. This time, we only made one trip to Carabelle to play golf. St. James Bay is always a tough test (check out our blog), but this year, the three of us played better than in recent years. The course was in pretty good shape this year too. It’s always a must to take a picture of the alligator warning signs!

This year, we did something we’ve never done before. We rented a pontoon boat from Pirate’s Cove in Eastpoint. The staff was great and easy to work with. We took the boat to Little St. George and jumped from the boat into the bay, walked around to the gulf side of the beach to go shelling and enjoyed the ride through Apalachicola Bay.

Normally, we eat a lot of home-cooked meals on our trip each year, but the adult kids always get away for at least one dinner while the grandparents watch the grandkids. This year, we went to Paddy’s and enjoyed the great environment and good food. I had shrimp and grits, and Krista had the Buffalo shrimp wrap.

We also had to make a stop at Aunt Ebby’s. You just gotta have ice cream when you’re at the beach!

Whether you’re making your first trip to St. George Island or you’ve been coming for more than 20 years, like we have, we hope you make as many memories as we have on our annual trip to SGI!
